Radish, a genus of cruciferous plants of West Asian and European origin, is widely grown around the world. Can be successfully cultivated in all agro-climatic zones of Sri Lanka.
Radish is rich in ascorbic, folic acid, and potassium-rich vegetables. It can also be used as a source of vitamin B6, riboflavin, magnesium, copper, and calcium. It is also a good source of energy as it is rich in carbohydrates. Its energy is 20 kcal per 100 grams.
Radish, also known as Moolaka in Sanskrit, was known as Moola Pala in ancient Sinhala. Some people do not like to eat radish because of its unpleasant odor. It smells bad because it is high in sulfur. As a result, radishes can cleanse the blood by removing toxins from the blood. In India, young radishes are eaten raw. The Japanese also like to eat radish raw.
Radish causes appetite because it causes the flower to urinate well. It also gives the body the strength to prevent and resist disease. Like radish, the leaves are healthy. Taking both types together also improves urine filtration. It also helps prevent kidney stones. Raw potatoes and leaves are very good for people with urinary stones. Radish is also good for hemorrhoids patients. It is good for coughs, asthma patients as it has the power to kill mucus. It is also a good vegetable for women who have menstrual problems.
