The stimulus to fatigue ratio has been hammered hard as a talking point by Dr. Mike Israetel over the past few months. But does it REALLY matter? I mean REALLY?


Yes. Yes it does. The simulus to fatigue ratio is a crucial part of getting great results, and definitely deserves it's place in how you think about training. Dr. Mike Israetel is right on the money with this one-for any set, you should generally be trying to get as much stimulus that will help you get towards your goals, while trying to keep fatigue as low as possible.



That doesn't mean not working hard; some fatigue is sort of unavoidable and while it's not necessary or desireable, it's going to happen with any kind of stimulatory training.



Stimulus and fatigue can both be quite hard to measure, and it's important to listen to your body, because everyone...every body...really is different. What works for me might not work for you.



Above all else, always keep in mind joint health when lifting. While that extra sloppy rep might give a bit more stimulus, it could create a hell of a lot of fatigue if something snaps. It takes thousands of reps to make you, but only one rep to break you. Remember that!


Finally, this isn't an attack on Dr. Mike whatsoever. I'm a fan. A big, big fan.
