9-year-old Priyanka Ghosh was among three children who were killed when a chariot came in contact with a live wire in Unakoti district of Tripura during the return Rath Yatra festival on Wednesday. The news has been especially devastating for her grandfather, as two more members of the family are still fighting for their lives in the hospital.
The deceased child's grandfather Sitaram Ghosh said, "Three people from our family attended the rally. One of them died, while two others are hospitalized. Their condition is not good. We do not know whether they will survive or not."
Meanwhile, a host of senior BJP leaders comprising Union Minister of State Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhoumik, BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee, local MLAs and ministers on Thursday paid a visit to Kumarghat sub-divisional hospital in Tripura’s Unakoti district and interacted with the injured victims of the horrific incident. The Tripura police has also started a probe into the incident.
Based on a complaint lodged by the family of one of the deceased people, the police also registered an FIR against the organisers of the Rath Yatra.
