I broke all my own rules in this submission because it was one of my first large submission and I was just starting to learn best practices. Here's what I've learned since then:
1. Learn how to grade books.
2. Don’t submit books prematurely! There’s some Venom slabs in here, that don’t get me wrong are beautiful, amazing covers, amazing stories, but definitely not a good investment for flipping purposes. If you’re keeping them for the P.C., by all means submit them. But if you’re submitting in hopes of turning around to sell, don’t submit books that have undeveloped characters with hype around them. I screwed up here and submitted VIrus stuff and I’ll be lucky to break even.
3. This one is up to personal preference and that’s whether or not to go with CCS for pressing. This will be an interesting unboxing because all of these books were pressed by CCS and there’s a lot of rejects. We’ll get to see how well they press books compared to others so stay tuned to the end when we go over the rejects. I had these books quick pressed, which you should know has nothing to do with the turnaround time! What it means is that they only press and clean the book once. With their standard pressing tier, they will press and clean the book, and if it comes out with a pressabe defect still noticeable they will press it again. The current cost is $8/book for quickpress with a 15 book minimum for modern books, the fee goes up for higher value moderns and older books all the way up to $150 per book for the walkthrough service or 2.5% of the FMV of your holy grail book. The regular pressing fee for modern books is $12/book. The big consideration here is turnaround time because no ones likes waiting for their books! Current turnaround time is 99 working days which comes out to over 4.5 months. Then you have to start the grading process which is another 42 working days, or about 2 months. So right now if you had your books pressed and graded by CCS and CGC (same facility you ship it to one place) you’re looking at a minimum of 6.5 months. Fast track it for additional fees and cut that time in half to over 3 months.
Cost Breakdown:
Spawn 9 - 73 with Elite tier discount comes to $1606 all in shipping everything, 105 quick press 840, 32 reject fees at $5 160, 1545 initial cost of the books, grand total all in $4,151 for 73 9.8’s and 32 raw rejects (could be 9.6’s!) take my cost 4151 all in / 73 = 56.86 8 1.13 because it’s 13% fees to sell on eBay, comes to $64.25 I would break even. Sell them for $128 and I’m doubling up. Right now they are going for anywhere between 80-120. So I’m gonna do okay but, I’m gonna hold. I’m hoping Angela is cast in the new Thor movie, which would change everything. What would I do differently? Pressed myself and only submitted the true 9.8 candidates and saved about $1000.
