The Petrov's Defense or the Petrov Defense (also called Petroff Defense, Petrov's Game, Russian Defense, or Russian Game) is a chess opening characterized by the following moves: 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nf6. It was played by several top grandmasters, including Ian Nepomniachtchi, Vishy Anand, Fabiano Caruana, and many club players play it too.

It happens after 3.Ne5 d6, and here instead of retreating with the knight back to 4.Nf3, you can go for this interesting sacrifice 4.Nxf7, which is known as the Cochrane Gambit.
