Do you need to take an antibiotic?
Life comes at us fast, with ous schedules we can’t afford to be sick. We become desperate!
Let’s get to the question.
Our four vulnerable areas are ears, throat, lungs and sinuses. Multiple symptoms in those areas equal a virus.

Let’s talk about the illusions of viral infections. Symptoms last from seven to ten days. It goes from not bad to awful in this time. In the latter stages you will start questioning if you need an antibiotic. Then you say, “Hey, I am done with this. This has gone on for too long, and I just need this gone!” This is day seven or eight. The next two days, you magically get better. An important fact is viruses are typically a 10 day issue. It often feels as if the antibiotic fixed the issue. Really, it did not, as the symptoms would have gone away in that time frame anyway.

In some moments however antibiotics are need. Let’s take a look:
The throat: Strep throat benefits from antibiotic treatment. In most cases, strep throat is just a bad, painful throat without a runny nose, ear pressure or a cough.
The ears: Although it isn’t as common for adults, some get complicated ear infections. If they do, they will not commonly have a runny nose or a sore throat. The symptoms will be more localized in the ears, along with fever and some pain.
The lungs: If you have a very productive cough, fever and fatigue (probably without a sore throat, a runny nose or ear pressure), you could have pneumonia. It does take a chest X-ray to confirm. Listening to the lungs is not perfect in most cases.
If you are listening closely, you might notice I didn’t address one area: the sinuses. In many levels of my training, I was taught sinus infections take a long time to get rid of, so patients probably need two courses of antibiotics. Sinus infections take about three weeks to go away. Antibiotics or not sinuses will take three weeks.
If you do take an antibiotic, your odds of having more sinuses infections that year are 50% higher than if you did not. So, if you do take an antibiotic for a sinus infection, it won’t go away faster, but you have a good chance of getting sick sooner than you would otherwise.

I am not against antibiotics, but by very conventional guidelines, Antibiotics are not much help with a mixture of symptoms like bronchitis and flu. One note about the flu: There is a treatment, called Tamiflu, which is kind of like an antibiotic against influenza. The data says it isn’t helpful.

Here’s a trick to treating viruses. Viruses shed themselves by sweating more than anything. When kids get sick, they get high fever, and then are done. As adults, we do not have that kind of vitality.

Here’s how we do it:
At bedtime, prepare some ginger tea. Fill the bathtub with water that is as hot as tolerable. Put extra blankets on your bed and wear sweat clothes. A silly amount of clothes. Jump in the tub for about fifteen minutes, while drinking some warm to hot ginger tea. Ginger is a diaphoretic warming you up internally. Once you have cooked yourself pretty good in the tub, wear the sweat clothes in bed with blankets, while you sleep.

After a few hours of sweat, throw off the clothes and go back to sleep. you will awaken and will have kicked the virus! You will have have broken the cycle. This method is a stronger antibiotic for most, common, respiratory infections and has no side effects!
