The Hamilton County Sheriff's Department issued a news release Thursday morning identifying the shooting suspect in a triple homicide in the 300 block of Kelly's Ferry Place as 19-year-old Derek M. Morse of Lookout Valley.
HCSD spokeswoman Janice Atkinson reports that a warrant was obtained and around 4:30 a.m. Thursday for Morse. Officers located and arrested him at a home off Elder Mountain Rd.
Morse is charged with attempted criminal homicide. Atkinson says additional warrants will be filed on Morse charging him with three counts of criminal homicide as a result of the shooting incident. She also says that the names of the deceased will not be released at this time due to family notification.
Atkinson says this is an active investigation with other arrests possible.
Reporter Drew Bollea spoke with a woman Thursday morning near the scene of the alleged crime. She claimed to be the mother of one of the victims. The woman, who wanted to speak off-camera, said she left the home for about thirty minutes Wednesday night to go to the store and when she returned she found her son and two other adult men dead. She said a juvenile who was also at the home claimed to have been shot several times. He told her he witnessed two people driving away. The woman also reported that she spoke with the juvenile's father Thursday morning who said the teenager was hospitalized in stable condition.
