Defenders fighting 'bloody battles' at Azovstal plant - Ukrainian commander
The commander of Ukraine's Azov regiment says those inside the Azovstal steelworks in Mariupol are fighting "difficult bloody battles" against the Russians.
In a video message, Denis Prokopenko said his troops had made "superhero efforts" to retain control of the site, where up to 2,000 soldiers and 200 civilians remain.
General Lord Richard Dannatt, the former head of the British Army, has said that we could be nearing the final days of the fight for Mariupol.
Lord Dannatt believes Russia will attempt to claim success in the city by its Victory Day on Monday - adding he fears Ukrainian prisoners could be paraded in Moscow. He said:
"I think we are now seeing the final days of this tragic and terrible episode going on in the Azovstal steelworks.
"If you think back a week or so ago, maybe 10 days ago, [Vladimir] Putin announced that he would seal it off so that not even a fly could get in or out.
"Well, that was an indication that the Russians were finding it very difficult to subdue the garrison there. They've now come to the conclusion that they have to have some sort of victory to celebrate on Monday."
