I’m doing a review of my Mayones Regius 7 string guitar. It has a set of Bare Knuckle Silo pickups is connected to my Fractal Audio Axe FX III.
The Mayones has swamp ash back, maple top, and an ebony fingerboard. I have a three-way switch, so will only be doing humbuckers. I made this Axe FX patch today just for this video. I will be playing the following tones: Glassy Clean, wet clean lead, greasy edge of breakup rhythm, edge of breakup lead, 2000s nu metal style crunch, Hi Gain scooped metalcore rhythm, hi gain more midrangey djent rhythm, and high gain lead tone.
The neck pickup has a nice roundness and organic ness to it, but I feel like the top end is a little papery sounding, I wish It was more glassy and less jazzy. The bridge pickup sounds nice with med-high gain but it’s not really a metal pickup sounding to me. It has nice beef to it and is dynamic, maybe would prefer something hotter and more aggressive. I think these Silo pickups would sound better in a bolt on guitar, that is less modern and more vintage inspired. What do you think? I ordered a pair of ragnaroks and warpigs for this axe to see how they sound and hopefully do a comparison video. Definitely subscribe if you think that would be interesting.
