The gravy sauce in this pie filling is absolutely delicious thanks to the combination of ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, onion, and garlic. The long cooking time allows for these flavors to develop and intensify.
As with most pie fillings, you’re able to cook this a day or two ahead of when you need it. Merely keep in the refrigerator until you need it. Scoop into the pie cases and bake in a hot oven or pie maker.
You can also eat this pie filling without a pie crust. It goes great with a side of chips.
All the ingredients that you will need to be able to make this ground beef pie are right below. For the best results, I recommend sticking to the exact list of ingredients.
Pie Filling
1kg (2.2 lb) ground beef
1 onion, diced
2 tsp. garlic minced
1 Tbsp. Dijon mustard
1 & ½ cups beef stock
½ cup ketchup
2 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
Thickening
2 Tbsp. cornstarch
2 Tbsp. water
I brown the ground beef as this helps reduce the amount of oily liquid in the slow cooker. Leaving out this oily liquid will leave you with a much better tasting pie filling.
I don’t add any vegetables, but you’re able to if you want. Some celery, carrot or even peas will work great in this pie mixture.
I love this slow cooker ground beef pie recipe, and I know that you will too. If you have some feedback, tips or something else, then please don’t hesitate to leave a comment below.
