The sonoff mini R2 requires both a live and neutral to function. Putting the sonoff behind a light switch seems logical. But there isn't always a neutral wire available behind the light switch! Your next option is to put the sonoff mini by the light fixture itself. That way you will have your precious neutral wire, BUT you don't have a permanent Live feed, just the switched live coming from the light switch (except if you live in the UK, with their 3 plate loop in wiring system). With my little circuit hack you can power the sonoff at the light fixture, even if the light switch is turned off!!!?
There's an updated version of this circuit hack that makes it compatible with more LED bulbs.
it includes a diode and capacitor that eliminates flicker in many types of LED bulbs. see link below

00:00 Intro
02:00 Diagram explaining how to power the MIMI R2 By the Light fitting with NO permanent live.
04:25 The Optocoupler circuit with componets values included.
05:14 The PCB layout with components soldered onto the board in their correct positions.
06:00 There is a mistake on this diagram! The output of the Optocoupler transistor is reversed! And should be wired the other way around to S1 and S2!
06:09 Everything wired up to demonstrate the circuit working.
09:25 Testing your LED bulb with a diode, to see if it works with half-wave.
11:51 Installing the sonoff mini in the light fixture and testing it with the light switch and Google home.
