Dengue fever is ranked by the World Health Organization as the most important mosquito-borne viral disease in the world and the most rapidly spreading with a 30-fold increase in global incidence over the past 50 years. Currently, there is no effective mosquito control measure or treatment for Dengue but several leading research teams in Australia are tackling different pieces of the Dengue puzzle. Slowly but surely, they are making breakthroughs to stop those pesky Aedes aegypti mozzies, and the Dengue virus, dead in its tracks. Maryanne Demasi accompanies the team as they release a squadron of test mozzies into Queensland backyards.
