In a moment of contemplation, one might find themselves pondering the teachings of the Buddha.
One of his most profound insights was this: the present moment is not solely a product of the past, but rather a result of how one shapes past experiences through their present intentions.
The Buddha referred to this process as sankara, or fabrication, which can be broken down into three types.
There is bodily fabrication (the in and out breath), verbal fabrication (the internal dialogue one has with themselves), and mental fabrication (feeling tones, not emotions).
These fabrications serve to mold past experiences into one's present reality, and often are done unconsciously, leading to stress and suffering instead of happiness.
However, the Buddha offered a solution: by becoming aware of these processes and navigating them with knowledge, one can transform their experience into a path toward the end of suffering.
This wisdom, brought forth by Thanissaro Bhikkhu, encourages self-awareness and personal growth, inviting individuals to reflect on their own patterns and behaviors.
So, as one moves through life, it is important to remember the potential power held within these fabrications - and harness it for the betterment of oneself and others.
