US Naval fleet in the Pacific Ocean during the Battle of Santa Cruz Island in World War 2. Deck crewmen gather near US Navy SBD Dauntless aircraft, with damaged tail, and push it aft on flight deck of USS Enterprise (CV-6). Flight deck crews begin respotting aircraft on the deck. Smoke rising from an enemy bomb strike aft. The carrier taking evasive action, as shown in its wake. Smoke-covered flight deck aft and section personnel falling to prone position as enemy aircraft strafe the ship. Tracers seen across the deck. Enterprise antiaircraft guns firing and puffs of black smoke from flak filling the sky. Some of the ship's antiaircraft guns firing level at Japanese aircraft attacking low over the water. An attacking Japanese airplane makes sharp climb behind the Enterprise, which continues evasive maneuvers in the water. Heavy cruiser USS Portland (CA-33) visible astern of USS Enterprise.
