These places were used for filming: Acoma Pueblo, Cabezon, Mogollon, the mission of San Esteban Del Rey in New Mexico, the dead town of Cabezon, and the gypsum hills at White Sands. During the shoot, Leone mostly stayed at home. For five days, he went to New Orleans to work with the team. Leone took over as director for one day while Tonino Valerii was sick with an ear infection.
