How to fix a stuck Apple trackpad battery screw on door that is stuck because of corroded batteries. How to get the white battery acid leaked battery residue out of the battery compartment of an Apple Magic Trackpad (A1339). Try this at your own risk, but it fixed mine.
You'll need:
* A nickel
* Pliers
* A hammer
* Vinegar or Lemon Juice
* Paper towels
* Q-Tips
* Old Toothbrush
1. Use a Nickel in the 'coin slot' on the Trackpad screw-in battery compartment lid.
2. If the compartment doesn't open easily, then it is probably sealed with battery corrosion.
3. Being careful not to crack the trackpad glass or hurt yourself, use pliers to turn the nickel in the slot while you have a friend tap on the edge of the nickel with the hammer. This will loosen the calcified battery leakage from around the threads of the battery compartment screw-mount door. It may take some force, but it should eventually come loose.
4. If the door still does not budge, you may try dripping some vinegar around the battery door and leave it to soak in for a while to loosen the corrosion that is sealing the door threads.
5. Once you have the door unscrewed, try to get the batteries out. They will likely be stuck inside the battery compartment tube.
6. Dripping some vinegar on top of the stuck batteries and letting it soak overnight should loosen the batteries enough that you can tap them out CAREFULLY on the edge of a table. BE CAREFUL not to break the thin trackpad glass on the surface of the trackpad by hitting it on edge. You may want to tap it on a rag that is near the edge of a table.
7. If one or both batteries still don't come out, try more vinegar soaking. Just don't use too much. A few drops should do it.
8. Once you get the batteries out, clean the battery compartment of all the battery corrosion residue with vinegar, lemon juice and an old toothbrush. It may take some patience, and coating the inside with vinegar to let it soak in between trying to scrape of the residue.
9. A thin wire or bottle brush may also help here.
10. Once the battery compartment is clean of corrosion, thoroughly dry the battery compartment before trying it out.
11. This worked for me, but others reported mixed success, or that their trackpad never came back on.
12. Remember, this is at your own risk, but it's better to try cleaning it out before you drop another $60-70 on a new Apple Magic trackpad(A1339).
13: Good luck!
