In early April, Joy & I traveled to North Georgia on an escape from children!
Haha... just kidding... not really!
Anyway, Mrs JBENHIKES & I visited Neel Gap, Dahlonega, Helen, Anna Ruby Falls, Unicoi State Park, & Brasstown Bald.
Day 1, we traveled from Alabama to Georgia, stopping off at Neel Gap (& Mountains Crossings). It had been years since I had hike through on an AT section hike of Georgia to North Carolina and Joy had never experienced the scenes (& smells) of actual thru-hikers. Well, she got that chance.
She even met Jeff “IBTAT” Oliver, Appalachian Trail & Pacific Crest Trail thru-hiker YouTuber/photographer extraordinaire just 2 days prior to leaving to complete his Triple Crown attempt.
The Triple Crown Hike is a thru-hike of all three major long trails of the USA - Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, & Continental Divide Trail.
Night 1, we stayed in historic Dahlonega, Georgia and explored the gold town of the south!
Day 2, we left Dahlonega and traveled a little further east to Helen, Georgia for a domestic Bavarian experience.
Night 2, we stayed within the Blue Ridge at the Unicoi State Park Lodge
Day 3, we left the lodge and drove to Anna Ruby Fall in the Chattahoochee National Forest. To our surprise, we were the absolute first people to the falls area for a cool morning hike.
We then leave Anna Ruby to visit Brasstown Bald, Georgia’s high point at 4,784”
Like all good things, this road trip had to end as well. So, we weave our way back out of the north Georgia mountains from whence we came.
See you in the mountains..., hopefully again very soon,
Jeff
