This video was created to accompany the series of radio programmes produced by the Institution of Civil Engineers North West for initial broadcast on ALL FM 96.9 and www.allfm.org, called Making Manchester: The engineering of the first modern city.
Here Katie Belshaw of the Museum of Science and Industry is interviewed on the site of the world's oldest intercity railway station, and talks about how Britain's early railways transformed society.
More information including a link to the radio programme can be found at www.makingmanchester.com.
Special thanks to Manchester String Quartet and Glucose Records for allowing the use of their "Happy" during this series.
