After the video gaming zone in Gujarat’s Rajkot burst into flames, which killed 28 people, the city’s municipal body and the state government came under fire from the Gujarat High Court. The Gujarat High Court criticised the municipal and state government when it got to know that the two gaming zones are running without permits for over 24 months. This also includes fire safety certificates. The High Court said that it could no longer ‘trust’ the state government. This was after the Rajkot municipal body said, in court, that ""our approval was not taken..."" The court further expressed its frustration. Upon learning that the gaming centre had been constructed on unauthorised premises and fire safety certification hearings have been unsolved for four years. The court questioned, “Have you gone blind? Did you fall asleep?” The hearing today went from bad to worse after photographs showed officials at the gaming zone. The court asked, “Who were these officers? Did they go there to play?”
