If you type “VPN” in the Google Play search, you’ve already lost. There are too many providers and most of them are not worth trusting. So I’ve decided to find the best VPN for Android, and here are the top 3 options I’ve decided on after testing.
------------------------------------------------
NordVPN for Android: The best all-purpose VPN
------------------------------------------------
My first provider today is NordVPN for Android. In my opinion, it’s one of the most convenient VPN apps I’ve tested.
It looks simple and minimalistic, and I especially like the way the map interface navigates. Since public Wi-Fis are some of the least secure connections, I also prefer to have good security on a VPN for Android. NordVPN’s encryption is as good as it gets, there’s a Kill Switch for preventing data leaks, and NordVPN uses RAM-only servers that can’t record your data long-term.
Besides, NordVPN can even block ads, trackers, and malware. Yes, even malware - Threat Protection is the feature responsible, and it proved to be effective in my tests. The only downside is that you will have to install NordVPN through the provider’s website to make Threat Protection work even with the VPN disconnected. Otherwise, Threat Protection will only work while your VPN for phone is active, and will not be able to detect malware.

Surfshark for Android: The best value VPN
------------------------------------------------
When I tested it on Android, a few things attracted my attention. First of all, it’s a very comfortable app without any excessive designs. It’s also quite beginner friendly, with useful explanations for most features. There’s not much to say about the basic security: Surfshark is a lot like NordVPN in this aspect, both in encryption and kill switch implementation. It even has RAM-only servers too.
Where Surfshark stands out from other best VPN options is in the Android features. For instance, it’s the only Android VPN I’ve tried that has GPS spoofing. I managed to change my GPS location tracking, which is quite nice for privacy. It has an ad and tracker blocker named CleanWeb. Unlike NordVPN, however, it can’t deal with malware.
If you want to use a VPN for Streaming, Surfshark can cover for the downsides of NordVPN. Thanks to servers with 100 countries, I managed to access Indian Disney+ Hotstar, which most VPNs currently can’t deal with. Upgrading from NordVPN once again, Surfshark has no limits on simultaneous connections, so you can share one account with as many friends as you want.

Atlas VPN for Android: The best native mobile VPN
------------------------------------------------
While NordVPN and Surfshark are two “desktop” VPNs with mobile versions, Atlas VPN is the opposite. It’s apparent as soon as you open the app. Or at least I instantly noticed, that Atlas VPN is very well designed, it’s smooth and straightforward, taking advantage of the mobile design.
I won’t say much about the security stuff, it’s about the same as with NordVPN or Surfshark: the encryption and Kill Switch are both on the same level, and I noticed no issues with them. As an Android VPN, Atlas VPN has quite a few important features. First of all, it can get rid of ads, trackers, and malicious links - that much is a given. But it can also detect malware, and even prevent phishing attacks. I verified it: Atlas VPN can actually detect and block phishing websites, which is huge!
In terms of Privacy, I appreciate Atlas VPN’s SafeSwap servers: they allow me to browse with multiple IP addresses, bolstering my privacy.
