After missing the past 3 seasons with horrible injury luck, Jonathan Isaac has been absolutely electric on the defensive end, establishing himself as an All NBA Defensive team caliber player in just 9 games with limited minutes this NBA season. So, in todays episode of MTS Mike Talks Sports, I break down the incredible start to this NBA season Jonathan Isaac has had on the defensive end, some key defensive metrics from his great start, and his overall situation in Orlando with the magic in order to paint the picture of what a healthy Jonathan Isaac season can look like. In 9 games this year, the Magic are 6-3 with Jonathan out there, and have gone 0-2 in blowout losses when Jonathan hasn’t played this year. He currently has a plus minus of +20, and he’s averaging a historic 3.9 blocks per game and 2.5 steals per game per 36 minutes. Orlando is also currently 9.4 points per 100 possessions better on defense with Isaac out there thus far. He has also stepped up at center at times this season at a high level with the recent injury of Wendell Carter Jr. Isaac has legit 3-5 switch ability, with the length and strength necessary to bang down low with centers, while he also has the athleticism and basketball IQ to guard forwards on the perimeter at a high level as well. Injuries and offensive struggles have kept him to just playing 13 minutes per game this year, but if he can prove to be a healthy player and a slightly below average offensive threat, then I fully expect to see Jonathan in the mentions for an all NBA defensive team at the end of the year, and I expect to see his minutes to increase. Thanks for watching todays episode of MTS, let me know in the comment section below, what’re your thoughts on Jonathan Isaac and do you agree with my take that he’s been an elite defender this season?
