Are you familiar with all three major codes of ethics for medical interpreters? If not, this video is for you. The codes of ethics and standards of practice by the NCIHC (National Council on Interpreting in Health Care), IMIA (International Medical Interpreters Association), and CHIA (California Healthcare Interpreting Association) are ALL required knowledge for the NBCMI and CCHI certification exams. However, our knowledge of medical interpreting ethics shouldn't be limited to a brief read of the codes and standards simply to pass certification exams. I hope this video serves as a jumping-off point for current and aspiring medical interpreters to really examine our codes of ethics and embark on a journey to understanding them more fully!
