In a sign that Jeremy Corbyn's chaotic stance might be turning off voters, Janet Daby secured the safe seat by a far smaller margin than her predecessor. Turnout was barely a third in the poll triggered by Heidi Alexander's decision to quit, and the Lib Dems surged into second place. Mr Corbyn suffered a huge revolt in the Commons this week after ordering Labour MPs to abstain in a vote on whether the UK should be in the EU single market.
