Thiruvalluvar, commonly known as Valluvar, was a Tamil poet and philosopher. He is best known as the author of the Tirukkuṟaḷ, a collection of couplets on ethics, political and economical matters, and love. The text is considered an exceptional and widely cherished work of Tamil literature.
In the Tirukurral he has also written 10 couplets regarding meat consumption, how it is unethical and why humans should always strive to avoid conflict with animals both for the animal's sake and for their own spiritual growth.
In today's video we join Sai Vignesh who is the founder of the Almighty Animal Care Sanctuary speaking about 2 of these couplets.
Our divine Tamil poet Valluvar teaches us that meat is nothing but the wound of an animal and ingesting that wound which contains pain and suffering does not bring us any benefit. He also states that not killing a life is greater than doing a 1000 poojas or homams.
We live on the same soil Sibi Chakravarthy lived on, a king who gladly sacrificed a piece of his own flesh to an eagle in order to save a pigeon. Is it correct to kill and eat an animal while living in the same country where people like this have existed? Do think about it.
Animals have hearts that feel, eyes that see, and families to care for, just like you and me.
Be kind to all animals.
