Pretty simple recipe for foolproof rice pilaf, perfect every time. This rice pilaf is the ideal side dish to go along with pretty much any protein you can think of. You can make it vegan if you omit the chicken stock and don't use butter.

Ingredients:
3/8 small onion
1 cup long grain rice
1 cup orzo or other short dry pasta
2 3/4 cup liquid (water, stock, combination, etc)
2 tbsp olive oil
1/4 tsp cayenne
1/4 tsp dry mustard powder
pinch of turmeric
1/4 tsp paprika
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/4 tsp onion powder
1/4 tsp garlic powder
salt to taste
foil lid
Brown the onions, pasta, and spices in oil over medium heat, coat the rice in the oil, and then add the liquid until it come up to a boil. NOTE: make sure to turn the heat to the lowest setting before covering and cooking the rest of the way.
