Anti-narcotics police in Costa Rica seized 954 kilograms, or over a ton, of cocaine hidden in a container headed for Belgium, Sunday, October 27.
The cocaine was hidden in 20 bags being shipped with banana pulp.
The Central American country has seized more than 37 tons of marijuana and cocaine in 2019, according to Costa Rica’s Minister of Public Security.
Central America is becoming an important transit point for drug trafficking cartels. Drug gangs in the area receive shipments of South American cocaine and ship them across the border into Mexico towards the United States or by boat to Europe. (REUTERS)
