On 15 May 1997, Johnny Depp and Iggy Popp held a press conference at Canne Film Festival, promoting Depp's directorial debut, The Brave. The film received almost entirely negative reviews, but the press conference nevertheless gave Depp a chance to discuss what drew him to the story and the leading role. The 33-year-old actor spoke on topics ranging from the end of the American dream, the genocide of America's indigenous population, and what it was like directing Marlon Brando. Iggy Pop, meanwhile, shared his approach to writing music to film.
