Naomi Osaka splits from coach in emotional statement after U.S. Open return
Naomi Osaka has split from her coach following a second-round U.S. Open exit.
Tennis star Naomi Osaka has split from her coach, Wim Fissette, after four years and two Grand Slams together. Osaka, 26, the former world No. 1 and a four-time Grand Slam winner, paid tribute to Fissette in an emotional statement following her U.S. Open return.
"Four years, two Slams, and a whole lot of memories," she said on Instagram. "Thanks Wim for being a great coach and an even greater person. Wishing you all the best."
Fissette also posted on social media to announce his split from Osaka. He claimed they were close to great achievements in Osaka's comeback season.

"We were very close to a breakthrough," he wrote in an Instagram post. "When you do the right things and keep hearing from peers you are in the right direction, it's tough not quite getting it yet.
"As the coach, you keep trusting the process, knowing the lessons are getting you closer to the trophies. After the U.S. Open, Naomi decided to move forward with a new path. I accepted it knowing we close this second run with more good memories and gratitude for building her way back."
Osaka is now ranked 75th in the world and returned to tennis at the start of this year following a 15-month break after giving birth to her daughter.
