“She’s just such a true icon and like, just a rebel and just- I don’t know, I feel like she really championed, like being a weirdo, and just like being kind of an outsider, and like, I really identify with that a lot, and just her message and her vibe and like, her being a woman, and just such a strong powerful woman at that. It’s such an honor to be here.”

8. SOUNDBITE (English) Jean Paul Gaultier, designer:
“I truly love her, admire her, she always has been unique and with a big personality. She has. And what she is, she put it in the clothes and you could see her. You could see her impertiance, her rebellion, her way of also to play with the structure of the clothes, a lot of admiration. She is really like the queen of English fashion.”

“I think Vivienne was a revolutionary – she made her fight for climate change at the forefront of her fashion, and she’s a complete intellectual, someone that read a lot, somebody that really educated everyone around her. And had a huge impact on all of us.”

“Heartbreaking and, you know, beautiful, touching, emotional. I was thinking as a kid how she inspired me. She was such a maverick, and an iconoclast, in the best sense of those words. It’s an amazing loss and a
beautiful thing that we get to cherish her work forever. But anybody that’s ever put a safety pin in a shirt owes her a debt for encouraging us to think differently. And to break some rules.”

STORYLINE:
Saturday afternoon, a little over two months after Vivienne Westwood passed away, her husband, Andreas Kronthaler, presented a show in homage to the revolutionary British designer, in the gilded 18th-century rooms of the Hôtel de la Marine.
The fall-winter ready-to-wear show was named “Tintwistle,” after the working class village in the North of England where Westwood was born.
A range of personalities showed up to pay their respects, among them the actors Jared Leto and Julia Fox, fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier, and model Georgia May Jagger.
The collection contained the looks and silhouettes that were Dame Vivienne’s trademark, combining historical references, such as petticoat skirts and corsets, with humor, sex, and punk. There were ruched and pleated fabrics, mixes of prints and plaids, leggings and fishnet stockings, shearling coats, tartan kilts, sheepskin shoes, and antique fabrics from Vivienne and Andreas’s own collection. Platform sandals were de rigueur—Westwood always believe in putting women on a pedestal.
The garments were worn interchangably by women and men; Westwood was one of the first designers to send male models onto the runway in women’s clothing, a practice that has since become common.
