I started my preparation for this year's tour today. Here's one of the things I worked on. Today was just about getting some looseness and speed into the hands. I dug this lick out towards the end of the session. I wasn't able to play this last year due to the nerve injury and recovery after the surgery. Now a year after it's very different, I'm happy to say!
The lick itself is triplets at 230 bpm. I made it to 235 bpm which actually surprised me since I haven't played this kind of stuff for a long time. The tonality of the lick is a bit twisted B Mixolydian (or E major if you insist). The twists come from a few chromatic passages and passing tones used.
The guitar used is my 2009 ESP/LTD EC1000FR, which has recently been modified with Extra Jumbo Stainless Steel frets, a late 80's Floyd Rose Original Tremolo and Erikoistuote Syvänen's (www.erikoistuote.fi) magnificient Excalibur FR sustain block. The signal chain after the guitar is as follows: Bogner Harlow compressor, Mad Professor Sweet Honey Overdrive, Line 6 POD 2.0 (Deluxe Reverb model), Laney Chrome-O-Zone tube combo (power amp only). About half of the distortion comes from the overdrive pedal.
I try to add these videos as much as I can. Obviously I can't do it daily, but I'll try to get close. Acoustic stuff coming soon!!!
