For a long time, I had collected and used physical media from DVD to Blu-ray and into UHD Blu-ray. With that, I had done a lot setting up my own local media servers using NAS storage, Plex, Zappiti, ISO and MKV files, and more. I took my infrastructure down though and have been using Apple TV streaming and Kaleidescape for some time now.
With my recent home theater upgrade though, I want access to some content at higher bit rates and lossless audio beyond streaming and not available on Kaleidescape. Given additional need to add more local NAS storage, I went ahead set back up to rip and host some local media. I will explore this whole concept, pros and cons, and discuss whether this still makes sense starting with this video on the channel.
