How many times have you watched a law related movie and heard the phrase "Objection!" Or "Objection sustained," or "Objection overruled?"
We've heard many times before. In the movies, on TV and newspapers, but do you really know what it means?
In today's video I show you exactly what it means.
When an attorney makes an objection, he is arguing to court that he does not agree with either the question being asked or maybe some evidence that is being offered at trial.
The judge must make a snap decision on whether he agrees or disagrees with the lawyer who is making the objection.
In some cases, the judge will be unable to make a snap decision whether the lawyer making the objection is right and then will require supporting documents to help him decide which argument is correct.
In addition, some issues affect how the case will proceed forward.
Some issues affect whether the jury will ultimately get to answer who is more likely right than wrong. When the judge requires oral argument or a mini hearing on a key issue of law, it is critical that the attorneys be fully prepared to argue those points or to conduct extensive research and be able to support their argument with known legal research.
Find out what a motion for summary judgment is and why it can affect your particular case.
