When I was asked what book changed everything for me, I said Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. This book is relevant to every architect. The question it asks is: "What is quality?" Or in other words, "What is good? What is not good?" It also explores the difference between "classical" and "romantic" understandings which directly relates to the engineering and art sides of architecture, respectively.
This is a great summer reading book for students. The ideas discussed in the book are incredibly valuable!
I recommended the book previously here:
