Edited NASA TV footage of Russian extravehicular activity (EVA) 52 aboard the International Space Station (ISS) on April 18, 2022. Expedition 67 cosmonauts Oleg Artemyev (Олег Артемьев) (@OlegMKS) and Denis Matveev (Денис Матвеев) (@denis_mks) performed the spacewalk out of the Poisk (По́иск) airlock module.
The spacewalk began with the cosmonauts installing the EVA control panel for the European Robotic Arm (ERA). While Artemyev continued with this task, Matveev removed protective covers from the four grapple fixtures for ERA. These fixtures provide power and data for the Arm when it is attached to them. Once installation of the control panel was complete, the two worked to removed protective covers from ERA and install handrails onto it.
The pair then returned to the Poisk airlock, where they stowed the protective covers. They then retrieved a passive payload interface adapter, which they installed on the exterior of the Nauka module.
This was the first in a series of EVAs to prepare ERA for operation. Attached to the Russian Nauka module, the ERA will augment the capabilities of spacewalkers on the Russian side of the Station in the future.
