In this episode, Film Forum presents two conversations with Romanian director Andrei Ujica, who joined us for the opening weekend of THE ROMANIANS: 30 Years of Cinema Revolution, the most expansive survey of Romanian cinema presented in the U.S. to date. THE ROMANIANS is co-presented by the Bucharest-based Making Waves Film Festival, and New York-based Cinema Projects. It was produced by Corina Sutue and Oana Radu, and programmed by Mihai Chirilov and David Schwartz.

In this first conversation, on Friday November 15, Andrei Ujica spoke with curator David Schwartz following VIDEOGRAMS OF A REVOLUTION, a film he co-directed with Harun Farocki in 1992, which uses amateur video and footage from the state-controlled film industry and a demonstrator-controlled tv station to capture the revolution that swept dictator Nicolae Ceausescu from power.

Next up, a Q&A with Ujica from Saturday, November 16, with Making Waves director Corina Sutue, following Ujica’s 2010 film THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF NICOLAE CAEUSESCU which distills thousands of hours of official footage and home movies to document the rise and fall of the notorious leader.
