Research has shown that rates of social anxiety for people who identify as gay or lesbian are higher when compared to rates for those who identify as heterosexual.
In this video, I’m talking about 4 things you should know about social anxiety disorder for people who identify as LGBTQ+.
Specifically, I talk about:
*why the fact that individuals who identify as LGBTQ+ face the real possibility of more negative judgement from others matters a lot when trying to overcome social anxiety disorder
*why LGBTQ+ individuals who’ve been diagnosed with social anxiety disorder might need to reconsider or think twice about this diagnosis
*whether the sexual orientation of your therapist is important at all
*whether concealing or hiding your sexual orientation (i.e. having anxiety about being “out”) leads to social anxiety or if it’s the other way around
