The Bacille Calmette-Guerin vaccine was first explored 100-years ago as a treatment to prevent pneumonia. In the 1960's, it was used to treat melanoma, 1980's found it being used to fight bladder cancer. Dr. Ashish Kamat, President of the International Bladder Cancer Group and Professor of Urology & Cancer Research for the M D Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas takes a close look at the uses- and availability difficulties, with the drug commonly known as BCG- presents to today's surgeons.
