The AstraZeneca vaccine carries a small risk of blood clotting after the first dose but no extra risk after the second.
That's according to data published in The Lancet.
The estimated rate of thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome after the first does was 8-point-1 per million in those inoculated.
After the second dose: 2-point-3 per million.
That's a rate comparable to what's found in the unvaccinated population.
The company's executive VP of biopharmaceuticals R&D said Wednesday that such results support the administration of the two-dose regimen.
