You may have tried the widespread and often-helpful practice of choosing a “word of the year” each January. But have you ever considered setting an intention to experiment with a particular spiritual practice or virtue? Might you sense an invitation to do just that in a new year?
Richard Foster and Nathan Foster each have experience with turning their lives into laboratories. Richard’s newest book, Learning Humility, came out of a divine nudge he sensed one New Year’s Eve to spend time exploring what he could learn about humility through study and experience. Nathan’s book, The Making of an Ordinary Saint, came out of a desire to spend at least a year experimenting with the 12 classic spiritual disciplines his father had written about 30 years earlier in Celebration of Discipline.
In this webinar, guided by participant questions, host Carolyn Arends talked with Richard and Nathan exploring topics like:
• What are the benefits of seeing my life as a laboratory?
• Is choosing a spiritual discipline or virtue to experiment with a good idea for everyone?
• How might I choose an area of focus for this year?
• How can I remain committed to a divine experiment for the long haul?
