Take off of Virgin Galactic's WhiteKnightTwo and SpaceShipTwo from Spaceport America earlier today, July 11, 2021.
SpaceShipTwo Unity carried six people, including Virgin Galactic founder Sir Richard Branson toward space on a suborbital flight.
The spaceplane was dropped from the carrier aircraft at an altitude of around 14 kilometers and fired its hybrid rocket engine just seconds later. Upon breaking the sound barrier, VSS Unity pulled up toward space.
Afer cut off of the engine, the two pilots and the four passengers experienced micro-gravity for several minutes before descending back down to Earth.
VSS Unity safely touched down back at Spaceport Americ about 15 minutes after being released from WhiteKnightTwo.
The mission was the first fully crewed flight of SpaceShipTwo and the vehicle reached a maximum altitued of 86 km.
