The first official theme song of the West Coast Eagles Football Club (used between 1987 - 1999)
The West Coast Eagles are an AFL football club established in 1986, and officially joined the VFL in 1987 alongside the Brisbane Bears. Their first anthem was made by Kevin Peek. Under this anthem, the Eagles became the first non-victorian team to win an AFL premiership. They won the '92 and '94 premierships with this song, and both of those grand finals were against Geelong.
Lyrics:
(opening)
For years they took, the best of us,
and claimed them, for their own.
But now we've got them, back again,
our Eagles have come home.
We're the Eagles, the West Coast Eagles,
and we're here to show you why.
We're the big birds, kings of the big game,
we're the Eagles, we're flying high.
For years we learned, the lessons,
and we learned them, very well.
But now we've added, West Coast magic,
and we'll give you merry hell!
We're the Eagles, the West Coast Eagles,
and we're here to show you why.
We're the big birds, kings of the big game,
we're the Eagles, we're flying high.
So watch out, all you know alls,
all you wise men, from the east.
You get more than just a Footy game,
you'll get a West Coast Eagle feast!
We're the Eagles, the West Coast Eagles,
and we're here to show you why.
We're the big birds, kings of the big game,
we're the Eagles, we're flying high.
We're the big birds, kings of the big game,
we're the Eagles, we're flying high.
We're the Eagles, we're flying high.
