Between the years 1524 and 1526, hundreds of thousands of peasants in southern Germany and the alps rose in rebellion against their lords. They did so almost spontaneously and with no clear leadership. It was the largest peasant uprising in all of European history. Their demands were nothing short of revolutionary.
