In this clip, we can see that the player will find it very difficult to get position on the next colour after potting the red because the white will be colliding with another red after the shot which should impede its progress. The player solves the problem by applying a quick second contact to the white (during the shot) to force it through the obstacle ball.
There is a very easy way to check to see if he does indeed do this: Immediately after the shot, we can see that the white ends up going in exactly the same direction that the cue is pointing. This is because the last thing that contacted the white must have been the cue and not another ball: Double contact foul.
