It has been quite a while since my last video, but here's a bass cover of Black Sabbath's "Wheels of Confusion" (also referred to as "Wheels of Confusion/The Straightener") from their Volume 4 album to get things back up and running again. Vol. 4 is one of the weaker Ozzy Sabbath records in my opinion, but this track is among my favorites of the band. It's a really interestingly written song with a lot of musical sections I get a big kick out of. The bass was originally played by Geezer Butler, who is definitely among my favorite bass players. I actually tried to emulate his style a bit on this one, playing on the neck rather than my usual pickup position. I followed the main line pretty closely, but I improvised most of the fills in classic Geezer minor pentatonic fashion.

My setup this time is pretty close to how I usually do things, with an 80's Peavey Fury P bass with Rotosound Jazz Bass 77 flatwound strings through a Genz Benz Contour 500 amp. I actually mic'd it up using two microphones this time, using my go-to Shure Beta 52 for the meat of the sound, but a little bit of crispness from a SM57. I've never played with two mics at once before, so that was a lot of fun. My tone's at about 85% and I only did minimal EQing. The tuning is C# standard.
