On Monday, October 30th at around 12:45 PM, firefighters were dispatched to several reports of grass on fire near the intersection of Highlands Road and Aguanga Ranchos Road in Aguanga. The first arriving engine company officer reported 15 acres of vegetation burning at a dangerous rate of speed, with an immediate structure threat; prompting a request for additional fire engines and aircraft. Over the course of seven days, a total of 137 fire engines from various cooperating agencies across the state came to assist firefighters in battling the flames. Almost 4,000 people were evacuated from their homes during the incident, and were assisted by the American Red Cross. The fire destroyed 13 structures and damaged three additional structures, with two firefighters suffering non-life threatening injuries. The fire was fully contained on the evening of November 5th at 2,487 acres.
