STORYLINE
Provincial officials in southern Afghanistan said three suicide bombers have hit a regional police headquarters in Kandahar, killing at least one police officer and wounding 10.
A Police Chief said the bombers blew themselves up inside the police complex on Thursday.
He said after the explosions, insurgents stormed the building, armed with rocket-propelled grenade launchers and machine-guns, setting off a 45 minute gunbattle with security troops.
A provincial health director said at least one police officer was killed and 10 were wounded
Kandahar province is a Taliban stronghold and the scene of some of the war's heaviest fighting.
