Let me know in the comments how do you celebrate Christmas?
and what is your favorite thing at Christmas?
I wanted to share how I celebrate Christmas in Denmark. This time I had a Christmas Eve with my girlfriend and her family first, the day before Christmas. We always celebrate 24 December for Christmas Eve. I know that I a lot of the world celebrate on 25th December. but our Scandinavian and Nordic tradition is celebrating Christmas on the 24th. This time I celebrated on the 23rd where my girlfriend had her kids at home. Next day on the actual Christmas day I celebrated it with my own family, my sister, my brother, friends who are like family and The kids of my siblings.
We divide out who is doing the cooking and each does their own. Then we will bring our food and Together we create a feast.
We are then having dessert which is Risalamande. It’s actually rice pudding with whipped cream and chopped up almonds.
And then we dance around the trees singing various danish and sometimes one or two English Christmas songs. The last song is often “now it’s Christmas again” which is a Danish song where we run around the whole house and even outside repeating that song.
Finally we open up the gifts That we placed under the tree. We each pick a present and we read up what’s on the card - Like who is It from and who is it to. Around 2 AM and sometimes later we finally finish and we get some night food as we call it. This time everyone was so tired and full that we didn’t get any of that.
That’s pretty much a short version of Christmas in Denmark.
