Ram Island Ledge is a jagged finger of rock a quarter of a mile long at the northern entrance into Portland’s outer harbor. The ledge runs southwest off nearby Ram Island and has long been one of the most feared spots by local mariners, despite being just over a mile from Portland Head Lighthouse.
