Do you shy away from including cars in your street scene paintings? Want to see some tips on painting in a more loose style. The subject for this painting is a small car park in Bergerac, a town in the South West of France. Perhaps a scene that many might dismiss as too boring, but I like taking quite ordinary scenes and try to make a painting out of it. I am painting contra jour or against the light in this one.

In this demo I will be covering...
1) Choice of Subject. What makes a good watercolor subject. How to simplify the scene.
2) Materials I use such as the paper. I will also cover the paints I use and the palette, plus how I hold the different brushes for different techniques.
3) Doing the outline sketch as the first step. How to draw the car shapes at different angles. Simplifying the scene.
4) Doing the sky and the first wash of the background buildings and then the foreground street level.
5) Shadows and details of the figure and cars.
6) Watch out for the end highlighting tips.
