Alberta chief medical officer of health, Dr. Deena Hinshaw, provided an update on the province's response to COVID-19 and reported that 27 new cases have been confirmed in the province, bringing the total to 146 cases. Hinshaw confirmed that a man in his 60s, with underlying health conditions, has died from the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.

Hinshaw urged people to reach out to others to talk if impacted by the news announced Thursday, saying it was understandable.
She also said it's suspected eight of the confirmed cases may be a result of community spread.
